Decorations & Citations
- Purple Heart; Bronze Star Medal (France) Citation reads....While transferring ammunition from a truck which had been stuck in a ditch, the squad of which Private DONALDSON was a member, was subjected to enemy mortar fire, followed immediately by an attack of an enemy patrol consisting of one machine guns, two machine pistols and an undetermined number of riflemen. Splitting into two groups, one half of the squad continued to unload the ammunition while the other successfully held off the enemy forces. Later developments proved that this ammunition was vital to the successful defense of a battalion against the repeated violent enemy Counter-attacks. THOMAS was killed in Germany March 23, 1945.
