Cited by Commanding officer for his performance of duty in an amphibious operation at Salerno, Italy September 9th - 11th, 1943. Citation reads...PETTY OFFICER DONALSON participated in the landing of troops and equipment, Under almost continual heavy artillery fire. Donalson made repeated trips to the beaches. His seamanship, tireless and coolness under fire contributed materially to the success of this operation. The courage, skill and devotion to duty displayed by DONALDSON on this occasion reflect distinct credit upon the Naval Service.
