Letter to ANDERSON'S mother in Cairo Messenger, August 4. 1944. From Red Cross worker as dictated by PFC Frank Fentor. ANDERSON asked me to drop you a few lines and let you know he has been getting along fine. He is well as usual and always the same boy. He has been to me what us boys call a bosom pal. It surely means a lot to have a friend one can depend upon in a time of need. The other day on the battle field I was shot by a sniper. The first thing I cried out for was a medic but none was there. ANDERSON heard my voice and came crawling to help. He pulled me out from under fire and bandaged my wound. Then he asked me to drop you a line and let you know he was all right. I hope this letter may bring some encouragement to your heart. The letter was signed "A Friend". Anderson had died before the letter was received. Was buried in US Military Cemetery, Blosville France (temporary cemetery) moved to Long Branch Cemetery, Grady County, Georgia.
