US Army serial number 34-982-14. Born; Thomasville, Georgia. Inducted; Cairo, Georgia. Home of record; RFD #3, Ochlocknee, Georgia. Before induction was employed farming for R. A. Bell, Cairo, Georgia. Was aboard troop ship SS Persic on September 12, 1918 near the Isles of Scilly when it was torpedoed by the German U-boat SM UB-87. The ship did not sink. Despite substantial damage, the ship limped back to port under her own power.
