PLATOON SERGEANT TRAMMEL moved from man to man administering first aid at great personal risk. After dark, he collected the wounded and guided them to the beach in search of an aid station and further medical aid. On June 24, when the company was ordered to the front lines to replace another battalion. PLATOON SERGEANT TRAMMELL was sent forward alone by his company commander to guide back the companies of the battalion to be reinforced in order that these companies might set up night defense on a more favorable terrain. He moved out at dusk over unfamiliar hostile terrain. On reaching his objective, he found that the companies had already withdrawn. Not being certain of their withdrawal, he continued his search to the front despite intermittent rifle fire. He narrowly avoided several enemy patrols and succeeded in obtaining information concerning hostile dispositions which was of value in the next days attack. His original mission was completed.
