He served as executive officer of USS (SC-744). SC-744 was targeted on November 27, 1944 by a Japanese kamikaze air attack. Struck aft by a Mitsubishi A6M Zero, it was damaged and towed to port where it sank. One of the crew was killed and six others were wounded during the attack.
