- Purple Heart (Wounded, Germany, March 4, 1945). Bronze Star Medal for action January 27-29, 1945. Citation for disregarding his own personal safety, and while suffering from frostbite, CAPTAIN BROWN braved devastating enemy fire to inspect his front line positions day and night to inspire and encourage his men who were defending under extreme adverse climate conditions. By his consistent courage and determination, he led his company in repulsing numerous enemy patrols and counter attacks. CAPTAIN BROWN'S leadership in battle and concern for his men reflect the highest credit upon himself and the military service. European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three battle stars; World War II Victory Medal

Graduated from Louisiana State University. Worked as a pomologist for the US Department of Agriculture from March 1939 until February 1942. Specialized in the propagation of tung nuts. Employed at US Tung Nut Station north of Cairo on State Road 112.
