Inducted; Fort McPherson, Georgia. US Army serial number 34-025-798. Stationed at Fort Stewart, four Grady County soldiers were returning home for the weekend. On State Route 38 near Homerville the car blew a tire and wrecked. Pvt Earnest Barrett of Cairo was killed. Pvt Robert McGill of Calvary was seriously injured and died the next day. Pvt Joe Willis of Cairo was seriously injured but recovered. Pvt James Barrett of Cairo, a cousin, of Earnest Barrett was not injured. Burial; Piedmont Cemetery, Calvary, Georgia.
