- He attended Primary Flight School, Bartow Air Base, Florida. He received a back injury from a training plane crash (T-28) while attending advanced Flight Training School, Greenville Air Force Base, Mississippi. He received a disability discharge as a result of the back injury.

Son of Sergeant James Albert Collins, Sr. US Army. Graduate of Cairo High School Class of 1947. Emory University/Georgia Tech and graduated Georgia Tech 1952. Employed Coca-Cola Company, Atlanta; Fisher Controls, Atlanta, then transferred to Japan, (Nippon Fisher Control, 8 years). Married in Tokyo. Moved to Hong Kong. Established his own company (Eagle Process Controls Ltd.). Worked for several American industrial firms. Remained in Hong Kong for 20 years. Returned to Cairo upon retirement in 1997. Burial; Cairo Cemetery, Cairo, Georgia.
