Enlisted: Recruiting Station, Atlanta, Georgia. US Navy service number 152-09-87. Served as mess attendant on transport George Washington transporting troops from Hoboken, New Jersey to Brest, France. Was wounded by sub attack during one of the Atlantic crossings. Later served aboard the destroyer USS Fanning (DD-37). Fanning was one of only two destroyers credited with the sinking of a enemy submarine World War I. Henry joined the Cavalry in 1926 and taught horseback riding until injured and discharged due to disability in 1936.
