- European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal; Purple Heart: Wayne was on patrol with several others when he was shot in the leg by a sniper. Medic went to him but came under fire from the sniper and had to take cover after the sniper was killed the medic returned and started working with Wayne. Unfortunately our patrol was far in advance of the aide station and partially surrounded by the enemy. They couldn't get Wayne out nor could they get blood to him. Under those conditions, Wayne passed away from the loss of blood
